Covid-19 Booster Shots Being Planned By US Government and Pharma

It is being said that staying protected from Covid-19 may need people to take Booster Shots within 12 months of receiving the first shot. David Kessler, the chief science officer for President Joe Biden’s Covid-19 response task force said that Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla agrees with the timeline. So far, evidence shows that Pfizer/BioNTech’s and Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccines will protect against the infection for at least six months.

However, there is not enough data available yet. Susan Bailey, the president of the American Medical Association, said, “Unfortunately, many people have misunderstood that to mean that it lasts only six months, [when] all that information means is that we know that it lasts six months, and we expect it to last longer.”

BioNTech and Pfizer are now testing for the efficacy of adding the third dose to the two-shot regimen. This week, even Moderna announced it be working on a booster that it hopes to be ready by the fall. Simultaneously, Johnson and Johnson is also testing a second jab to its one-shot-done protocol.

All these companies are working to overcome the emerging Covid-19 variants across the world. With each passing day, new variants are emerging in some parts of the world. However, each variant has different symptoms and health hazards. It is highly likely that Booster Shots or new vaccines will be needed in the future. Matthew Frieman from the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine said, “How frequently we need them—and if they’re needed worldwide or in specific populations—is what we don’t know.”
