A machine learning scientist to be hired by Apple to develop cutting-edge algorithms for early detection of certain diseases. This was concluded by a job posting published on the company’s website earlier this month. The posting read, “There is a tremendous opportunity to improve how people manage their health. Apple is looking for exceptional data scientists to help deliver amazing experiences that will address this need in meaningful ways.”
The job will involve the creation of tools to cleanse and efficiently annotate data. Large-scale data sets need to be analyzed to detect features that best capture the desired relationship between outcome and observation is very important. The Apple job posting continued, “Finally, you will design and develop ML models with the goal of deploying these models onto the mobile device.”
Also, one other foray from a big tech into the health sphere represents a new opportunity. Microsoft announced its achievement of being awarded more than 180 grants earlier this week. This will be possible through the AI for Health program it launched back in early 2020. Microsoft claims that the new grant’s goal is to accelerate medical research further, build new research capabilities, and address health equity.
John Kahan, Microsoft Chief Data Analytics Officer, wrote in a blog post, “Our grantees inspire and motivate us to continue our commitment and support against some of the world’s most complex health problems.”
